Conservatory

What is it?

The conservatory program at San Juan Hills High School is designed to help students prepare for careers or college programs in the arts by completing specific classes and meeting goals in their chosen field, such as auditions, skill-building, volunteering, and participating in school productions. Students must also maintain GPA and behavior standards, with requirements varying by major. To learn more, students can email or meet with an instructor, and for conservatory-specific information, contact Ms. Graff at clgraff@capousd.org. The Theatre Arts conservatory offers majors in Theatre, Musical Theatre, and Technical Theatre. To apply, students should schedule a meeting with Ms. Graff between June, before 9th grade, and September to ensure the program is a good fit; the enrollment deadline is November 1 each year.

Cappies Critics

What is it?

The Critics and Awards Program strives to recognize the Orange County student writers, performers, and technical crews. High school theatre students who participate in the Cappies program are trained as critics, attend shows at other schools, and write reviews. The top three reviews from each show are published online.

At the end of the school year, the student critics vote to give awards to their fellow students for outstanding productions, group and individual performances, and achievements in technical categories. The critics vie for the Best Critic and Best Critic Team Award. Awards are presented at the annual Cappies Gala at the The National City Grove of Anaheim.
